Letter from the President

Winter 2008

Dear Prospective Member:

Thank you for your interest in the Charleston Junior Women’s Club!

Our main Community Improvement Projects for this year are the Lowcountry Food Bank and DJOLE Dance Company!  Not only will our fundraising monies be divided between these two wonderful organizations, we will also be having lots of fun service activities with them over the year.

Our club is a group of truly remarkable Charleston women who are committed to giving back to our community. I invite you to look over our membership information, complete and mail or email the membership application. We are looking forward to meeting you!

Susan Fletcher

President

Membership Information

The Charleston Junior Woman's Club, founded in 1966, is a member of the General Federation of Woman's Clubs. The goal of the organization is to be of service to the community through voluntarism. Personally, we strive to grow as individuals through service, education, and fellowship with one another.

DUES: Annual dues are $131 during your first year of provisional membership and $106 thereafter.

MEETINGS: General meetings are held on the first Monday of every month from October through May, with the September meeting held the second Tuesday after Labor Day. Unless specified, General Membership Meetings are held at the Charleston County Library on Calhoun Street (unless otherwise specified) and begin promptly at 6:30 pm.

FULL CLUB PROJECTS: CJWC sponsors "full club projects" in which all members are required to participate. The two projects this year are an oyster roast in the fall and a golf tournament in the spring. Participation in full club projects is a great way to get to know fellow club members and is the KEY to making a difference in our community.
Members also participate in our Community Improvement Project activities which benefit different charities for two full years. For the next years, we will be supporting the Lowcountry Food Bank and DJOLE, a West African dance and drumming company located in the Union Heights neighborhood. We will be planning many service activities with these two organizations starting this fall.

DEPARTMENTS: The Charleston Junior Woman's Club structure follows that of the General Federation of Women's Clubs. Federation programs and projects are established at the national level and implemented at the club level through the work of six departments Arts, Conservation, Education, Home Life, International Affairs, and Public Affairs. Each department is chaired by an active club member, which organize several programs and projects for members to participate in through out the club year.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: A few of the organizations supported by CJWC, both monetarily and through service, include:

The American Red Cross
The Preservation Society of Charleston
The Susan G. Komen Foundation
Pet Helpers
Charleston County School District
The SPCA
The Girl Scouts of America
Charleston Miracle League
And many more!
